Members of Toledo Rotary and the Central Oregon Coast Veterans Association (COCVA) turned out on a wet Monday morning for a major improvement to the city’s Veterans Memorial on Main Street. Volunteers installed four flagpoles and obtained service flags and a POW/MIA flag that were proudly displayed today for the first time. Ray Taylor of Siletz, a member of COCVA thanked the City of Toledo for providing the display. “This means a lot to a lot of us. It really does.” Bob Deming, Toledo Rotary President, said the next task is to rig lighting in the area and set up a caretaker schedule so the flags can be flown full time. The morning’s steady rain paused long enough to accommodate the assembled crowd, who watched the flag-raising and then said the Pledge of Allegiance. Rotary member Dan Barrett said additional names need to be added to the display and that is the next project Toledo Rotary will take on at the site.
