Perhaps appropriate for mid-winter, the artists working in Toledo’s First Weekend are on a “Black and White” theme. The event features a group show to showcase the wide range of artwork being created in Toledo. Caroll Loomis, Becky Miller, Alice Haga, Karen Fitzgibbon (Fikaa Designs), and Sarah Gayle (SolaLuna Studios) will each display primarily black and white pieces created especially for this two-day show to be held at Becky Miller Studio (167 NE 1st Street).
Photographer Robert Trusty will also carry out the Black and White theme at LastLight Photography (157 NE Alder St) from 11:00 – 5:00 Saturday and Sunday. He has produced more than 100 black and white prints examining natural and found
objects from the Oregon coast and from his family’s farm near Nashville, Tennessee.
The group show idea emerged last year when they took a girls trip together to Sisters to see an art show there, Miller said. “We all felt so inspired by bouncing ideas off each other that we didn’t want the fun to end when we got home,” she added. “Caroll and I had talked at one time about doing a black and white show when we both were artists-in-residence at Skybound Art Gallery on Main Street. The idea came up again when the theme was set for First Weekend in January, and we all decided it would be a great opportunity for our first group show.” The Black and White show will be open from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday, January 5 and 6.
