A multi-agency investigation into the death of a teenaged Beaverton girl has concluded that Jacob Green, 24 of Newport, was solely responsible for her death. Kayla Ann Hendrickson, 16, was found dead the night of January 18 along highway 6, about 18 miles east of Tillamook. The initial investigation determined she died of gunshot wounds, and was a homicide victim. Green was found dead in Humboldt County, California the next day of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said a vehicle described as an unknown make or model late 1980′s to early 1990′s full-size pickup was observed by a witness stopped on the north side shoulder of the westbound lane on Highway 6 between milepost 18 and 19 that night. Two people, a man and woman, were seen along the highway near the stopped pickup. About 25 minutes later, the witness contacted a Tillamook police officer advising of suspicious circumstances along Highway 6 in that vicinity. An OSP trooper responded and found a dead female, later positively identified as Hendrickson, along the highway.
(Note: an earlier version of this story used Henderson and Hendrickson; both names were used in an OSP release January 23. Nevertheless, we accept responsibility for the error).
